Sentinel Pass Trail

Sentinel Pass Trail is a challenging yet rewarding hiking route located in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. Starting from the picturesque Moraine Lake, the trail initially follows the same path as the Larch Valley Trail, climbing through dense forests and opening up to the vibrant Larch Valley. As hikers ascend, they are treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the brilliant fall colors of the larch trees. The trail then diverges, continuing its steep ascent towards Sentinel Pass, navigating through rocky terrain and scree slopes. The higher elevation and rugged path require good fitness and proper gear, but the effort is well worth it.

At the summit of Sentinel Pass, hikers are rewarded with some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the Canadian Rockies. Standing at an elevation of approximately 2,611 meters (8,565 feet), the pass offers unparalleled vistas of the Ten Peaks and the expansive landscapes of Banff National Park. To the south, hikers can gaze upon the Paradise Valley, while the view to the north reveals the dramatic contours of the Larch Valley. The sense of accomplishment upon reaching the pass, coupled with the stunning natural beauty and tranquility, makes the Sentinel Pass Trail an unforgettable adventure for experienced hikers seeking to immerse themselves in the grandeur of the Rockies.
